You can...
- Own a small dog rather then a big dog because they eat less, have less waste which leaves less of a carbon paw print.
- If you own a cat you can protect the environment by keeping them indoors. This will protect wildlife from being killed.
- Beef production has a much higher environmental impact then chicken or fish productions have so by choosing pet food with chicken or fish rather then beef will reduce carbon pollution.
- Instead of using clay based cat litter, switch to a biodegradable one which is better for the environment.
- Don't over feed your pet as this will reduce the amount of food being manufactured.
- Buy only environmentally friendly pet products as this will have a result on a healthy environment. Ask yourself "do I really need all of those toys and clothes for my pet." It only adds to the carbon paw print.
- De-sex your pets so their off-spring don't put extra burden on our world. Leave this to the breeders.
- How about owning a pet that provides a service - eg. have a chicken that lays eggs or a goat that provides milk. Because they make good companions and serve a purpose.
- Choose your pet from a shelter rather then a pet store because this will reduce the amount of animals being bred unnecessarily.
- Always buy your pet from a trustworthy source to reduce smuggling and mass produced animal farms.
